Merit, Equality & Exam Cutoff System

In many competitive exams, the cutoff marks are different for different categories and religions. For example, in, the cutoff for General category students is often much higher compared to some reserved categories.

Many students feel that opportunities should be based more on talent, hard work, and equal competition rather than category-based differences. A student scoring high marks can still miss opportunities, while another student with lower marks may qualify because of reservation cutoffs.

According to me, there should be no reservation in competitive exams because many talented and hardworking students are unable to get admission to the best colleges despite scoring higher marks. I believe every student should get equal opportunities based on merit, dedication, and performance.

At the same time, reservation policies were created to support socially and educationally disadvantaged communities. The discussion today is about finding a balance that provides fairness and equal opportunity for everyone.

The goal should be better education, equal competition, and opportunities for all students.
