Deforestation

Deforestation: Bihar’s forest cover is alarmingly low at roughly 7.8%, far below the national target of 33%. Rapid urbanization, infrastructure expansion, and agricultural encroachment continue to wipe out remaining green covers.
​Agricultural Stress: To feed a massive population, land is over-cultivated. The excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides has depleted soil health, leading to widespread land degradation, soil erosion, and a drop in agricultural productivity.
