Complaint regarding student welfare, leave policies, and undue pressure faced by MBBS students
Posting this here because I genuinely want to know if other MBBS students under MGR University / affiliated colleges are also going through this.
I’m studying at Arunai Medical College and Hospital, Tiruvannamalai, and honestly the pressure has been really difficult.
MBBS itself is already demanding mentally and physically. We understand that. But apart from academics, some of the things happening feel too much.
Even when we’re genuinely unwell, getting a single day leave becomes difficult. Instead of being allowed proper rest, we are expected to stay in general observation beds in the hospital, which is uncomfortable and doesn’t feel like actual recovery. Sometimes even getting permission to go for OP consultation isn’t immediate.
There are days when we barely sleep because of the schedule and workload, but still have to attend lectures without any flexibility.
On top of that, fines are imposed for very small things—like being a minute late to class or missing yoga due to exhaustion. ₹500 for things that can happen because we’re physically tired feels really unfair.
As medical students we already carry a lot of pressure. These additional rules and penalties make things feel heavier than they need to be. It becomes mentally exhausting after a point.
I’m posting this to ask—are students in other government/private colleges under MGR University also facing similar issues?
Student welfare and mental wellbeing matter too. We can handle hard work, but there has to be some understanding and basic flexibility.
