Poor Air Quality (Air Pollution)
Dust and Particulate Matter: In Chhapra and its surrounding areas, significant dust is generated due to road construction activities and the presence of unpaved (dirt) roads. Consequently, the levels of PM2.5 and PM10 frequently exceed safe limits, leading to respiratory ailments.
Burning of Waste and Crop Residue: In urban areas, the open burning of solid waste, and in rural areas, the burning of crop residues (such as paddy straw), releases smoke and toxic gases into the air—a problem that is particularly acute during the winter season.
Vehicular Emissions: Within Chhapra city, exhaust fumes emitted by older vehicles, auto-rickshaws, and commercial vehicles contribute significantly to air pollution.
