NEET Crisis vs Media Coverage
It is heartbreaking that after the NEET controversy and the tragic loss of students’ lives under immense pressure, much of the media focused more on debates like why “Melody is so chocolaty” instead of discussing student mental health, accountability, and the education system. A responsible media should question serious issues, not distract the public with trivial entertainment. Ironically, some Indian channels were busy criticizing Norwegian media, while Norway ranks 1st in the World Press Freedom Index, and India is currently ranked 157th out of 180 countries by Reporters Without Borders. A democracy needs journalism that informs and questions power — not noise that ignores real suffering.
